Slano and the surroundings

This area has been inhabited as early as prehistorical times (the remains of the buildings are on the nearby hills) and antiquity (old Christian sarcophagi are exhibited in front of the Franciscan church). Since 1399, Slano had been part of the glorious Republic of Dubrovnik so a rector’s palace was erected here too.

Cavtat

Cavtat is a small town in the municipality of Konavle, 50 km south of Slano, below the Adriatic Highway and near the airport in Ćilipi. Cavtat is located in a beautiful bay closed by the Rat and Sustjepan peninsulas.

Ston is a small town with the longest stone wall in Europe and the oldest active salt works in Europe, therefore called “town of salt”. It is located in an area where Pelješac peninsula is joined with the mainland.

Vjetrenica cave is in Zavala (Ravno municipality) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is 15 km from Slano. From Slano, drive towards Ćepikuće, then towards Ravno to Zavala and then go towards the cave.

Trsteno is a small town situated about 15 km south from Slano towards Dubrovnik. It is known for its arboretum, situated on the right hand side of the Adriatic Highway, if you are travelling towards Dubrovnik, or rather “below the highway”.
